If patrons are dancing, they are not spending money, so moving the dance floor up and down is going to facilitate the evening.  It’s common practice to lower the energy level towards the end of the night.  You do not want hundreds or thousands of alcohol-influenced patrons amped up at the end of the night, and then turn the lights on, sending them off into the night.  A gradual approach is proven to work.  Keep in mind this more of the norm for and average venue with nightlife.  Super clubs/night clubs are entirely different.  That’s why most venues will make us resident DJ for years.
